Brian Archer graduated from Queens University Belfast with an Honours degree in law in 1991 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1994.
Following this he worked as an Assistant Solicitor for Francis Keenan Solicitor in Belfast from 1994 -2001 specialising in Criminal Law representing clients before the Magistrates and Crown Courts. He was appointed an Advanced Advocate by the Law Society and the American National Institute of Trial Advocates in 2001.
In 2001 he set up his own firm in partnership with two other colleagues and in 2016 the set up practice on his own account as Archer Solicitors in Belfast. Brian obtained a Masters Degree in Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Queens University Belfast in 2009.
Brian was appointed to the Law Society’s Children Order panel and NIGALA Children Order panel in 2010.
In 2007 Brian was appointed a Deputy District Judge and he continues to sit throughout the Jurisdiction in Magistrates, Youth Courts, and Family Proceedings Courts.


He became President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland on 30th November 2022.
Over the last 23 years Brian has been involved in Legal Education as a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies and has been a Law Society Council member for over 16 years chairing several committees.
Outside his legal practice Brian has been involved in several charities namely the Sexual Abuse Counselling Service Nexus for which he was appointed Chair of their Board of Directors from 2016 -2018.
Brian was also a trustee and Deputy Chair of the Include Youth charity from 2018 – 2024.
He is married with two grown up children.
